Flash Game Tip #1

Regardless of how other people judge your game or how many plays it gets, in the end what matters is how you feel about the game personally. So I’d say the number one thing in making a successful Flash game is making something that you’re proud of. That you’re proud of putting your name on. That you’re proud of saying “this game’s good, I love it and had fun making it.” I think that is what makes a successful Flash game.

Flash Game Tip #11

There are a lot of Flash games out there which completely destroy a lot of mainstream studios that put millions of dollars into a game and their game bombs. It just shows that at it’s core, if you make a game that’s fun, it doesn’t matter if it looks as good as say... Halo. There’s a good chance you’ll still do well and everybody’s going to want to play it.

Flash Game Tip #33

The number one thing in making a successful Flash game is simply making a good quality game that’s unique. It’s very, very, very important because what will break a Flash game is making something that fades off into nothing. If you are copying an existing game exactly, if you’re design idea is “I want to make a base defense game except with bugs,” then you’re going to fail. If it’s as simple as “I want to do this, but with this visual change,” you’re not going to do well.

Flash Game Tip #67

The most important thing for all video games, regardless of the platform, is the gameplay. If the gameplay isn’t good, it’s not going to matter. In fact, you can totally throw art, sound, and everything else completely out the door and just do a game with circles and squares. As long as it has great gameplay, it’s going to do well.
